Is is safe for a pregnant RN to care for a patient receiving oral chemo? My 1st OB appt is not till next week.

I’m a newly pregnant RN who works acute care. I took care of a patient receiving oral hydroxyurea tonight at work. The oncology RN gave him his pm chemo med (he gets it BID). I never touched the med. Per universal precautions, I of course wore gloves when changing his linen, emptying commodes, etc. But these were regular latex gloves, not chemo gloves. I plan to talk to my OB next week at my 1st appt about workplace risks. I never thought of chemo risks before until tonight. Do you think I have anything to worry about in having cared for this patient? I didn’t even think about it until I got home. Normally, I would not worry but being pregnant and in the 1st trimester I worry about teratogens. Any chemo/oncology RNs out there who can reassure me that this one night of care probably didn’t do harm?! I am freaking out a little now that I am home and mulling it over. Thanks!

Looking to trying your own ecommerce storefront in 2010? It is very possible to find a profitable niche in today’s competive just by using Niche Blueprint 2.0 as this will teach you how to build the store and how to find dropshippers and also how to do proper SEO using the correct techniques toget your storefront seen by thousands.

You could call a pharmacist and ask to be sure. But what I know about this med is that it obviously shouldn’t be taken by pregnant women, however in most of the stuff I found online it doesn’t say anything about special precautions with the urine, etc. Since people take this in their homes and not just the hospital, I think the website I found would have mentioned something under the Patient Information section.

Yes, it is a dangerous mutagenic drug, but I seriously doubt that exposure to body fluids while you had regular gloves on would be a significant risk to you or your baby.

Are battery powered/electric toothbrushes better than manual toothbrushes?

Does it really make a difference?

What kind of toothbrush do you have?

Absolutely!
I have sonicare. I’m a dental hygienist, this is the brush I recommend for most patients. It has superior plaque and stain removal capapbilities, and with the fluid motion it creates in your mouth it pushes water and toothpaste between your teeth getting you 1 step closer to flossing. Your teeth will feel so smooth and clean all day long. There’s even a guarantee that you’ll have whiter teeth in 30 days because it removes stains so well! If you get one make sure you read your directions for proper care of the brush, and how to use it…you don’t scrub with this brush it does everything for you, you just have to move it from one area to the next. Additionally if you brush too hard it will help you stop that by making a really loud noise when you put too much force on it.

With PPO dental insurance will I have to pay upfront for some fillings tommorow?

We have no deductible and they pay 75% of almost everything except exam they pay 95%. Its the first time we have had Dental Insurance worth using and the receptionist didnt say anything today when I made the appointment. Any ideas helpful, if not I will find out in the morning.

COntact your dentist. Depending on your insurance, and his practice, you might be billed, or need to pay up front.

Cant really tell you more without knowing more about the specific coverage. Just call teh dentist office, they will tell you everything you need to know. Then, call the insurance provider, to confirm the dentist’s info.

Where i can find the best teeth whitening kit?

I’ve never used any teeth whitening products and I’d like to remove some stains from my teeth. So which one/ones works the best? A d does the white eventually fade back to the same color your tooth was before to where you’d have to whiten them again? If so, how long does the white usually last before it starts to fade?

if you are looking for the best teeth whitening, check out this site

You’ll get a white and bright smile just in 1-2 days and it’ll last for 6 months or longer.

Does a dentist teeth whitening make a big difference on yellow teeth?

The local dentist has a special if i get my teeth cleaned they do a free Teeth Whitening, anyone ever done one of these?
I use crest white strips on & off not consistent to see change as the strips are a sloppy process.

Yeah, the whitening done by dentist are often the best tough it cost a lot.. But there’s also other ways you can to it yourself. If you are really looking for teeth whitening, normal toothpaste probably isn’t enough just by itself.

I suggest doing what this mom did,

What are the advantages of a sonic oral B electric toothbrush compared to a professional care toothbrush?

Is the sonic technology better for your gums? Does it really matter? Or do the high end Electric Toothbrushes pretty much deliver the same? I have bad receding gums, probably from adding too much pressure, so I need a good good toothbrush if I want to keep my teeth for a long time.

I LOVE my sonicare toothbrush. It’s the Cadillac of all toothbrushes, but that is my opinion.

As for brushing, you could use a toothbrush from the dollar store and be fine…. as long as you do it correctly (45 degree angle at the gumline) and for two minutes at a time, twice daily. Be gentle with your gums. :)

Oh, floss daily and get regular maint. appointments at your dental office. :)

have a wonderful day

Do electric toothbrushes like the Oral-B Pulsar really do anything beneficial?

I don’t seem to notice a difference between a regular toothbrush and the one I use now. Does anyone know?

Yes they clean better than a regular one and they help stimulate the gums when you brush your gums with them.

Can someone please explain me the difference between discounted dental plan and dental insurance?

Can someone please explain me the difference between discounted Dental Plan and dental insurance? Which one is better? I am so confused.
Thank you all. Ann.

discount dental plan says "the desist will charge you less for this procedure, but you still have to pay him"

dental insurance says "we will pay the dentist this much for his services, the rest is yours to pay"

Insurance is better if you can get it, but some dentists will allow you to use both. They charge you less with the discount plan, so the insurance has less to pay and allows you to have more work done before you hit the maximum the insurance will pay per year. Talk to the dentist or office workers about it. they should be able to provide you with the best information.
