Cone-beam Volumetric Imaging in Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine

Cone-beam Volumetric Imaging in Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine
Cone-beam volumetric imaging was developed at the U. of Cologne in Germany to allow the use of legally permitted levels of radiation for wider range of dental diagnostic applications than previously available. In initial trial phrase of this three-dimensional diagnostic tool, the authors of this medical atlas (both of the U. of Cologne) were surprised at the number of asymptotic pathological entities discovered by chance. They have therefore prepared the atlas to illustrate these findings for use in day-to- day assessments. In addition to presenting diagnostic images, the atlas discusses the use of three-dimensional imaging in oral surgery, othodontic, and implantological therapy. The DVD contains an original data set and videos of assessments in different dental disciplines in order to demonstrate the diagnostic uses of the three-dimensional orthopantographs produced by this technique.

Acne – Treatment Tips With The Right Skin Care Treatment Products

Most people know that the normal pimple has a life cycle of six to eight weeks without serious treatment. But what they don’t know is that when pimples develop into acne, it would require more time to heal, it is painful due to heavy peeling and would eventually leave ugly and uneven acne scars.

If your pimples are taking too long to heal and are spreading all over your face and neck, then you should be visiting your dermatologist so he or she can give you effective acne skin care treatment products as early as now.

SKIN CARE THAT TREATS ACNE

It is common for people regardless of gender, age, or nationality to experience skin disorders. But among the kinds of skin imperfections, most people would agree that acne is one of the most painful and hardest to treat.

Here are some of the skin care tips that could help you treat acne even if you are at home.

1. The very first thing to do to solve acne problems is to trace the causes of acne for you to understand what should be done about it.

2. Make a little review of your lifestyle for the past few years or months and look if you have been neglecting so much skin and body care lately.

3. Make sure that you get enough sleep of at least 8 hours or more.

4. Eat three hearty meals and healthy snacks on the side.

5. Give your body enough water supply by drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily.

6. If you have been stressed out lately, try to unwind and relax so you could go back to living a healthy lifestyle.

If your acne problem doesn’t get any better, it’s now time to find solution to your problem. The very first thing you should do is to open or unclog the pores by washing once or twice daily with a mild cleansing liquid or bar.

Aside from keeping your skin clear and clean by cleansing, it also minimizes possible irritation and inflammation of the skin. If the cleansing strategy doesn’t work out, try opening your pores through exfoliating cleansers and masques.

After cleansing, you should kill the acne-causing bacteria by using antibacterial cleansers especially those that contain benzoyl peroxide. An acne patient can also kill the bacteria by using topical or external medications that come in the form of creams, gels, and lotions applied in the area affected.

Since too much oil in the skin aggravates acne, you should reduce the excess production by using gentle astringents or toners. Use products that contain glycolic acid or facial masques that have sulfur or antibacterial pads that have benzoyl peroxide to draw out the oil. If you want to conceal acne, you can use water-based or oil free cosmetics.

But above all these, dermatologists agree that having a good skin regimen is the ultimate skin care that treats acne. Developing a basic skin routine by using products that have benzoyl peroxide wash or salicylic acid and the application of benzoyl peroxide gel or cream can help you solve the skin problem.

SELECTING ACNE TREATMENTS AND PRODUCTS

Acne is one of the most common skin problems that people young and old have to deal with today. Being a skin disorder usually caused by irritated blackheads and whiteheads, the development of acne becomes more and more difficult to cure if the infection is neglected and left untreated. This neglect can even cause further irritation and may eventually lead to the production of abscess.

Since prevention is the best treatment to any impending injury or disaster, finding a good line of acne skin care products now can be an effective way to control your growing acne.

Acne skin care treatment products that have antibiotics have been long known as effective solution in treating moderate to severe and persistent acne. Oral treatments include products that contain tetracycline, erythromycin, minocycline and doxycycline are known to be effective.

Most people consider topical acne medication or treatments through creams and surgery as other options in treating acne. One of the most common acne skin care treatment product are acne creams. Before you purchase acne creams, consider these helpful tips:

1. Most dermatologists recommend acne cream as effective acne skin care treatment product because the skin quickly absorbs it.

2. Acne creams are good option because these are derived from natural substances and sources. Quality acne creams can even help you get rid of acne without too much acne scarring.

3. Checking the label. Make sure that the acne cream you plan to buy is hypoallergenic and can be used by children or pregnant women without enduring any pain or discomfort. Knowing the ingredients used in the product will ensure that the acne cream has balanced formulation to deliver effective results.

4. Do a little research on how the formulation and content of these creams help cure the skin infection.

5. Observe how your skin reacts to the acne skin care treatment product. After the initial application, take note of the visible changes so you can avoid possible side effects or allergies.

Cutting the Electric Bills

At certain times of year your electric bill can soar out of control. It might be in winter as you need to keep warm or in summer as you’re trying to cool off, but many people want to pay less for their electricity. Finding ways to cut this isn’t always easy.

One of the most obvious things to do is to get a programmable thermostat. This allows you to control which temperature will activate your heater or air conditioner at different parts of the day. You want one that can be set for morning, daytime, evening and nighttime temperatures. These will allow you to program it to go with the usual flow of your day.

If you can get used to setting the temperature a little lower in winter and higher in summer you’ll also do better. This is relatively simple in winter, as you can just pile on an extra sweater when you’re awake, and an extra blanket at night. It’s a bit more challenging during the summertime, but you can get used to warmer temperatures if you don’t spoil yourself with the air conditioner.

Take advantage of your ceiling fans. These do work winter and summer for circulating air. Contrary to popular belief, fans don’t so much cool air as they do move it, which makes it feel cooler. If you put the ceiling fan into the reverse setting in the winter it will circulate the warm air which rises toward the ceiling.

Many dishwashers allow you to just drip dry the dishes instead of using heat on them.

Unplug electronics when they aren’t in use, unless the clock needs to remain set. Most people can get away with unplugging the coffee pot as well as other electronics. Similarly, things that charge up such as Electric Toothbrushes can get by for several days or even weeks (depending on usage) before needing to be plugged back in. The charger keeps using electricity even when it’s not actively charging. I plug mine in once a week for about a day and it does just fine.

As a matter of fact, if it’s plugged in you can assume it’s using electricity, even if only a tiny amount. Decide what feels reasonable to keep unplugged when not in use.

Switch your light bulbs to compact fluorescent bulbs. This can be a small savings, but not only do they use less electricity, they last longer than incandescent bulbs, enough so be to worth the extra cost in most cases. In some places the electric company may even provide free ones for you to try.

Do I need to state the obvious? Turn the extra lights off! Also turn off the computer and monitor when you don’t need them on.

Keeping your refrigerator in good shape helps too. If you clean off the coils (either behind or beneath it), the refrigerator can operate more efficiently. Check the temperature settings. If you’re keeping things colder than necessary you are using extra electricity.

Good insulation also helps. This includes the insulation of your window coverings. Heavy curtains do best for many people, as they help keep the heat in during the winter and out in summer. However, in some places you may be able to warm things up a little bit naturally by letting the sunlight in, even if things are slightly (not extremely) cool outside. Natural sunlight also means you don’t have to turn the lights on.

With these tactics you can save some good money around the house. All it requires is a little effort and occasionally a little extra money spent to save in the long run.

Top 5 Dental Plan Benefits

Discount dental plans are fast becoming the number one alternative to traditional dental insurance. With more than 108 million Americans currently without some form of dental care coverage, it is more important than ever before that we discuss the benefits of discount dental plans.

Traditional dental insurance is virtually unaffordable if not provided by an employer. Therefore, individuals and families must have an alternative. For many, the perfect alternative is a discount dental plan. Discount dental plans offer flexible, convenient coverage that dental insurance policies lack. They’re also very affordable.

Top 5 Discount Dental Plan Benefits:

1) Affordable

Discount dental plans are considerably more affordable than traditional Dental Insurance. A typical individual discount dental plan will cost you around $79.95, while a family plan will start at around $120. In a report released in 2005 by the National Association of Dental Plans, the average monthly premium paid for individual HMO dental insurance(Traditional) was nearly $16/month, or about $192/year, compared to even more($288/year) for individual PPO dental insurance and a whopping $372/year for individual indemnity insurance. As traditional dental insurance rates continue to rise at astonishing rates, discount dental plan rates do not. In fact, the NADP states, “Discount dental plans have become an economical and important alternative to combat the rising cost of health care. They are a cost-effective vehicle for millions of under-served consumers to improve their access to dental care.”

2) No Health Restrictions

Unlike some dental insurance providers, discount dental plan providers do not impose sometimes unfair health restrictions on members. In other words, you will receive the discount afforded to you according to your discount dental plan’s fee schedule if you have health problems or not. It is not uncommon for lower income people to suffer from untreated ailments, thus making a discount dental plan the only option in some cases.

3) No Paperwork to Fill Out

Nobody likes arriving at the dentist only to spend 15 minutes filling out lengthy medical history and claim forms. With discount dental plans the only paperwork you fill out is the paperwork required to purchase your plan. Claim forms don’t even enter the equation.

4) Quick Activation

If you’ve ever tried to enroll with an insurance provider, you know that the wait can be unbearable – especially if you’re in immediate need of insured care. Discount dental plans, on the other hand often activate within 1-3 days, depending on the provider you enroll with. Within this time period, a discount card is mailed out to you, and you are often provided with immediate access to plan information, including fee schedules, and local participating dentists.

5) Direct Access for Individuals, Families, and Groups

Traditional dental insurance is rarely directly accessible to the general public – in terms of either policy or expense. However, discount dental plans are available directly to the general public. You can access and enroll in a plan right over the web in most cases. This is true for individuals, families, and groups alike. In fact, one of the largest segments of dental plan enrollees belongs to small businesses who find traditional dental insurance unaffordable.

The National Association of Dental Plans (NADP) considers discount dental plans as a viable, cost-effective alternative: “With an estimated 45 percent of Americans not having any type of dental coverage, and the dental insurance marketplace offering few, affordable dental products for individuals, discount dental plans are an attractive answer to the need to reduce consumer out-of-pocket costs and increase access to care.”

How to Beat the High Cost of Dental Insurance

The cost of dental insurance has gone through the roof in recent years. It’s now a proven statistic that approximately 70% of American have no dental coverage at all because of this. However, the most disturbing thing about this is that most dental insurance plans really don’t provide much coverage. Many people aren’t even aware of what they’re buying until they get to the dentist and have their claim denied because the procedure that they need to have done is considered to be pre-existing and dental insurance won’t cover anything that’s pre-existing. That means that if your spouse or daughter is in pain right now and you don’t already have insurance you are on your own.

The best way to beat the high cost of Dental Insurance is to join what’s called a discount dental plan. Many of these discount plans offer savings of as much as 60% off on most major dental care, as well as preventive care, such as cleanings, x-rays, etc. Since discount plans are not an insurance policy you can be seen for any reason, pre-existing or not. There aren’t any exclusions, no age limits, no co-pays, no headaches.

This is how discount plans work. Find a dentist in your area that is a member of the discount network. Join the plan by paying the low annual fee. This is usually under $100.00 for an individual, which is much less than insurance.

Within 1-3 days you can see a participating dentist. Once you get your activation notice, simply make an appointment, get a check-up and x-rays, determine what needs to be done and what you can afford to pay that day and then get the work done. It’s just that easy.

If you’ve been looking for affordable dental insurance I can tell you that it just doesn’t exist, if you consider what you’re actually getting for your money. I encourage you to look at both dental insurance (make sure to look at the “Exclusions”) and discount dental plans. I think you’ll be shocked at what you find.
